Sumo Digital, the developers behind the Crackdown 3, Dead Island 2, or anything else year after year have announced purchasing CCP Games\’ Newcastle-based studio. 34 staffers will likely be retained, and former Executive Producer Owen O\’Brien, who\’ll now lead the studio.
The move is hardly surprising. In October 2017, CCP Games let go nearly 100 employees, turning off their studio in Atlanta, Georgia and greatly reducing the staff within their now former Newcastle branch. The EVE: Valkyrie developer also announced they could be moving away from VR games, and head back into more traditional Computer games. Just a few days ago, the business announced development had begun for a new MMORPG.
As for Sumo Digital, this is certainly another move in the studio\’s growing grab for subsidiaries. Originally situated in Sheffield, UK, this company has since expanded to Nottingham and Pune, India, and have absolutely also acquired art studio Atomhawk recently. The developer has enjoyed growing success during two years, self-publishing cult hit 3D platformer Snake Pass during the early 2017, and seizing progression of LittleBigPlanet 3 from Media Molecule.
Sumo Digital have also been devote control over development on Dead Island 2 by publisher Deep Silver, which is stuck in developmental hell since its 2014 announcement by Yager Development. That that weren\’t enough, also they are currently implementing Crackdown 3, also first announced in 2014.
Sumo Digital and CCP Games tend to be heading in radically different directions. As Sumo Digital represents more work and even more studios to aid themselves, CCP Games is downsizing, and smart VR. Both studios are working together on Project Nova, that is set in the EVE universe. It\’s pretty sure the link fostered backward and forward while implementing bingo was the catalyst for any sale.
